Pilates Teaching Tip 1: Less is More

✨ As Pilates teachers, we’re passionate about helping clients move better, feel stronger, and connect deeply to the method. But sometimes, in our enthusiasm, we fall into a common trap: giving too many cues at once.

We’ve all been there — trying to correct alignment, breath, coordination, and flow all in the same moment. The result? A client who feels overwhelmed instead of empowered.


Why Less is More

Clarity builds confidence.

When you focus on just one meaningful cue, your client can actually absorb it. That single adjustment might help them lengthen their spine, deepen their breath, or finally connect to their powerhouse.

Pilates is about layering skills. By keeping your cues simple, you give clients space to experience those satisfying “aha” moments that keep them motivated.


How to Simplify Your Cueing

Choose one focus per exercise. For example, in the Hundred, maybe today the focus is breath rhythm — not arms, not legs, just the breath.

Keep it short and clear. Instead of saying “feel like your ribs are connected to the mat,” try “Ribs in.”

Observe before cueing. Watch your client move first, then decide which single cue will make the biggest impact.

Cue to the priority. Safety first, then powerhouse out!

Let silence do its job. After giving your cue, pause — give your client space to feel it.
